Turn a Regular Bra into a Nursing Bra!

Above is one of my favorite supportive, underwire bra. In 15 minutes or less, I will turn it into a nursing bra!

First, cut the straps where it would be most convinient to have an opening. You will want to be wearing the bra under a shirt you plan to nurse in to make this determination. Where does your hand go to release the cup?

Next, zig-zag stitch across all ends of the straps to prevent future unraveling.

Now cut two peices of ribbon, each about 10-12 inches long, and sew the end of one to the back edge of the bra cup. Sew the end of the other ribbon to the same place on the other bra cup.

Pin the straps together with the bottom pieces(attached to the cup) overlapping the top pieces. Put the bra back on. Mark on the ribbon where it is most comfortably possitioned along the front of the bra. You will want to leave it a little loose, so that it doesn't cut into your arm when the bra cup is open. Then sew the loose ends of the ribbons to the back of the top strap where you have marked.

If you have a snap-press, put two poly-resin snaps on each strap to make a closure. Make sure the part of the snap connected to the bra cup is overlapping the top part of the snap--not the other way around. This will keep the strap secure when not nursing, and still be easy to open and close.

Here is a picture of the finished bra with one strap closed and one open:
