Last night a bag of extras and returns of baby things were delivered to my house. Included in the bag are a few various sized prefolds–even premie sized! I never made or bought premie sized diapers because they only fit a full-term baby for a week. But, OMGoodness!!! I WANT to use these diapers on a baby of my own. The urge is visceral. It doesn’t help that I have the sweetest, most gorgeous children known to Mommy :)

It’s not going to happen for me. There won’t be any “oops” baby and I need to let go of the chance of a miracle baby. If we did ever adopt, it wouldn’t be a baby anyway. Although, I still occasionally pray for a miracle baby. If you are the praying type….. sigh…..

I was interupted a few times during the writing of this post by my 15mo echo. First, for me to read him The Foot Book. Then for a little snack. And now he is holding The Foot Book while having a snack and wiggling his feet around wildly! :) It’s the good times. The times when having a kid is so fun you forget about all the work that got them to this point. It just seems that I am the kind of mom who should have 3 babies.

She was wanting a new soft-pack carrier for her little precious man, and the options for sale are limited. So I just made one. I gave her a heck of deal, with the conditions that I choose the fabric, but she chooses the image/applique for the pocket. I chose this fun utility fabric from a going-out-of-business sale for the main section and muslin for the straps and waistband. When it was time to pick a pocket decal, Maya sent me links to an owl decorated carrier that she liked. This cracked me up! I knew that Maya was not interested in the owls because of how fashionable they are. On various sewing sites and fabric co-ops, owls are all the rage. People will buy the same owl print fabric is 2 or 3 different colors. It’s all owls owls owls! I don’t know why owls are so fashionable now, but they ARE! So there I was making something that is actually fashionable for the 21st century! How often that that happen?!

The utility fabric is just the perfect texture for maximum coolness in the near-desert like conditions Maya endures during the summer. The owl body is bamboo/cotton velour, accented with the utility fabric that has been allowed to fringe along the edges, and sewn onto a muslin pocket. The pocket is gusseted, so although it looks flat, it will hold stuff; and has a zipper just under the owl’s head. I really like the exciting textures, while having all the fabrics be a shade of “natural”. It looks like the padding on the shoulder straps is just a bit too far back, and I thought it was a bit too close when I made it :P. As Noah grows, he will pull back on the straps more and then they will be positioned better.

And here is one more picture Maya sent me. It doesn’t show much of the carrier, but I couldn’t resist with Noah’s ultra-sweetie face! (Maya is pretty cute, also!)

A friend and my husband’s colleague recently had a son. Great, I thought, this will give me a chance to make one of those Cute Asian-inspired outfits from Ottobre. I found out that they plan to use only disposable diapers (I know–Bleck!). I would make one of the patterns with snaps at the crotch. When I sat down with the magazines and tracing paper, I just couldn’t do it! So strong is my aversion to crotch-snapping! I settled for a little robe/jacket and knit pants that can be paired with the hideous onesies and went to find some good fabrics in my stash.

I picked out a very nice cotton/lycra French terry that is blue with white stars and, of course, bamboo velour to sew and LWI. What I didn’t think about ahead of time is that if you combine LWI and stars with an Asian-ish pattern, you get HIPPIE! See for yourself:

Oh, well. I am going to send them anyway. The outfits work equally well as separates. The pants alone are just plain pants, and the jackets paired with jeans won’t look so…. well, so like the perfect accessory is a chain of dandy-lions :)
